01

The problem

Mozambique's FCID needed to deliver state-funded loans to SMEs across the country, many of whom access the internet only from low-bandwidth mobile devices in Portuguese — and the existing application process was a 12-page PDF.

02

Approach

  1. 01

Designed a mobile-first, low-bandwidth Portuguese application flow that splits the original PDF into a 5-step guided form.

  2. 02

Worked within strict government accessibility and data-residency constraints; defined readable type scales and high-contrast colour for outdoor screen use.

  3. 03

Mapped officer-side review workflows so loan officers can triage applications, request documents, and approve disbursements from a single dashboard.

  4. 04

Iterated through 3 rounds of usability testing with World Bank stakeholders before sign-off.
